When you’re in real estate, long days on the grind are just part of the game. Site visits, city inspections, funding meetings—it’s a lot. But if you’re anything like me, you know how important it is to work hard and play even harder.
And for me, play usually starts with a good plate of BBQ.
My husband is a true foodie and barbecue enthusiast. Over the years, his love for smoked meats has taken us on more than a few unexpected day trips, especially when we’re checking out real estate projects in new areas. Somewhere along the way, finding the best ribs became part of our investment journey. Good neighborhoods, good deals—and good food.

Here’s my list of hidden gem BBQ joints that are a few hours’ drive (or even walking distance) from my real estate projects—past and present. I’m sharing the vibes, the best dishes, and even a few neighborhoods you might want to keep your eye on if you’re looking for your next investment move.
Colorado: From Rudy’s to Xenia Smoke
When I first got to Colorado, I was hungry for real BBQ—and honestly, my husband and I struggled to find anything that really hit the spot. That initial search later inspired my husband to start his own venture, Xenia Smoke. We spent a lot of time at Rudy’s BBQ in Colorado Springs before hauling my husbands full smoker setup back to Cincinnati. That thing could feed a small village!

Rudy's Vibe: Chill, family-style, straightforward good eating.
My Go-to Dish: Brisket and creamed corn.
Neighborhood Watch: Colorado Springs is booming. Rental properties and short-term vacation homes, especially near the military bases, are strong plays right now.
Avondale, Cincinnati: Where It All Started
My very first property was in North Avondale. Back then, you could find some of the best BBQ within walking distance of the house. One of my all-time favorites was J&W BBQ on Burnet Avenue. You could smell the smoke in the air before you even got through the door—and you just knew it was going to be good.

Throwback Vibes: Old-school neighborhood staple, family-owned, real Cincinnati soul.
My Go-to Dish: Rib tips and baked beans. Neighborhood Watch: North Avondale and Avondale are on the rise again. Keep your eye on mixed-use developments, especially anything close to the hospital campuses.
Notable Mentions: Ike's BBQ
Back in the day, Ike's was just a short car ride from many of my inner-city properties. Its proximity and commitment to authentic BBQ flavor meant I had to pay homage. Today, Ike's is a vegan restaurant, haven't tried it yet, but I have heard good things. Wow, how times change.
Cincinnati’s West Side: I'm Still Searching
Now, when it comes to Cincinnati’s West Side, I have a lot of love for the community—true West Siders who stay holding it down—but I’m still on the hunt for my go-to BBQ spot over there.
This is where you come in: If you know a great West Side BBQ spot that’s worth a visit, let me know. I’m always up for trying a new place, especially if it’s tied to a great neighborhood story. Hit me up on my IG @thelandladytiffani (with an "i"). I would love to try some new (and seasoned) BBQ joints.
Right now, I make sure I drive through Clifton so I can stop and pick up some Alabama Ques on my way home from my West Side properties.

West Side Vibes: Tight-knit, rooted in tradition, full of long-term homeowners.
Neighborhood Watch: Westwood and Price Hill have beautiful historic properties that are perfect for value-add strategies and long-term holds.
Final Word
Barbecue might seem like a small thing—but when you’re building a lifestyle around real estate, it’s the small joys that keep you motivated for the big wins.
Good food, good neighborhoods, good investments—that’s the real trifecta.
Follow along for more behind-the-scenes looks at the places I invest, the communities I believe in, and yes—the plates I clean.
